Open Letter
Dear, United States House of Representatives
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, and
congratulate you, on your support and in the passing of the National Blue Alert
Act of 2011 on May 15, 2012 in the House of Representatives. This bill, when
passed by the Senate, and signed by the President, will allow the Department of
Justice (DOJ) to establish a national communications network to issue alerts
(that would be known as “blue alerts”) when a law enforcement officer is killed
or seriously injured.
Every day the men and women of law enforcement put their lives’
on the line in protecting and serving the general public. I know many of these
individuals, and I can assure you, first hand, of their gratitude and appreciation.
Blue Alert has been established in a number of individual
States, with many more expected to come on line soon. I have been working
diligently with a number of States and various law enforcement agencies to
encourage the implementation of Blue Alert system.
Now, with Blue Alert nearing national status, its benefits to
the law enforcement community and their families will be achieved across the
entire nation. Since 2008 I have been the operator of the Blue alert website,
which can be found at http://bluealert.us. The
website is a portal in which citizens can track currently issued Blue Alerts
nationwide, as well as find related news regarding law enforcement. It also
provides a system, whereby a person can sign up for “Text-Alerts” for when a
Blue Alert is issued. Blue Alert is also very active on Facebook™, and has
thousands of followers on Twitter™.
If you would like more information about Blue Alert I would be
delighted to share anything you need to know. My contact information is at the
bottom of this correspondence. Once again, my sincerest thanks and
congratulations for your support of this vital piece of legislation.
Sincerely,
Tom Berry, Founder of the Blue Alert National Notification
System
