LUMBERTON - An off-duty Lumberton police officer was shot to death outside a gas station this morning when he approached a man wanted for other crimes.
Master Police Officer Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson Jr., 33, was shot around 11 a.m. in the parking lot of 5030 Fayetteville Road. The shooter is in custody, the police chief said, but hasn't been charged. His identity hasn't been released.
