Collision seriously injured a deputy & killed the suspect

(JESUP, Ga.)- A collision Monday night in Jesup injured a Wayne Co. Sheriff's deputy and killed the suspect the deputy was chasing.

Sgt. Josh Kruger, 34, was critically injured when he was ejected from his cruiser at about 8:30 Monday night at the intersection of Walnut and Hickory Streets in Jesup.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that the suspect was traveling in a stolen car and would not stop for Sgt. Kruger.  A chase ensued.  The deputy took his cruiser down a street different from the one the suspect was on and when the suspect raced through a stop sign, the deputy's cruiser crashed into the suspect's driver's side door.  Also according to a GSP trooper, both cars left the road and overturned.

"The deputy was ejected and the suspect's vehicle overturned and landed over top of the driver," said Trooper T. Brooks. of the Georgia State Patrol.

Sgt. Kruger was taken by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center where he was last listed in critical, but stable condition.

The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
