Midway Police Officer Nominated for Florida Retail Federation Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

Midway, Florida - September 1, 2012

Recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, Lieutenant Jerome Turner of the Midway Police Department has been nominated for the Law Enforcement Office of the Year. Each year, the Florida Retail Federation accepts nominations for the annual Law Enforcement Officer of The Year.

The awards are presented to “42 individuals who have embodied the epitome of excellence in law enforcement.” The award is selected rank of sergeants from police and sheriff’s departments, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Alcoholic beverages and Tobacco Bureau of Law Enforcement.

These nominees exceed the normal expectations of job performance through acts of professional achievement, public service, and courage.

A selection committee that includes representatives from retail security, law enforcement and governmental entities will select a winner for the eligible nominations.

“Honorable, upstanding, and dedicated, are the word Police Chief Terron Lindsey used to describe Lieutenant Jerome Turner. Lieutenant Turner has completed in depth investigations resulting in positive, strong convictions, he has been a driving force in the rededication of the Midway Police Department. He has provided valuable research needed to obtain equipment, funding, training, and the Police Departments Victim Advocate Unit.

His self-initiative has also provided avenues that have restored the relationship between our department, neighboring agencies, and most importantly our citizens.” We are very proud of our fellow officer and can’t thank him enough for his hard work and dedication to our department,” said Police Chief Terron Lindsey.

Officers will find out if they received the award on Tuesday, October 16, 2012.
