BSO Marks Anniversary Of Officer’s Unsolved Murder « CBS Miami

BROWARD COUNTY (CBSMiami) — Five years after Broward County Sheriff Sgt. Chris Reyka was gunned down, the trail to his killer was still cold. This week marks the five-year anniversary of his death on August 10, 2007.

“I keep saying someone somewhere knows something about who killed Chris Reyka and we need you to come forward. We just need that one piece of the puzzle to put those murderers in jail,” said Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti.

Lamberti and other law enforcement officers joined Reyka’s family at an annual barbeque in Pompano Beach Saturday to remember Reyka and Officer Scott Winters, another officer shot in the line of duty.

Reyka’s wife, Kim Reyka, said the show of support since the day of his death has helped her through this difficult time.

“It’s hard you know,” said Kim Reyka. “It is day by day. It changed my life…obviously the rest of my life. But it does help that I see the love and the commitment from each agency for my husband.”

Reyka is survived by his wife and four children. Since his death, two grandchildren have been born.

To honor the fallen officer, both were named Christopher.

“It’s hard this time of year,” said Kim Reyka. “But it’s hard throughout the year. This kind of brings it more to light.”

Reyka was gunned down early in the morning outside of a Pompano Beach drug store while he was looking for stolen cars.

In the days after his death, the reward for information leading to his killer began to grow. To this date, that reward stands at $267,000.

Investigators hope someone with information will call Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
