Seattle Police officer shoots armed man at park | Seattle Times

A Seattle police officer shot an armed man in Pritchard Beach Park in South Seattle early Monday morning.  The wounded man was taken to Harborview Medical Center shortly after 2 a.m.  A hospital spokeswoman said he was in critical condition.

Police believe the man who was shot was the perpetrator of an earlier shooting nearby. In that incident, residents of an apartment in the 7900 block of Rainier Avenue South said a man knocked on the door a little before 1:30 a.m. and asked for one of the occupants by name. When that person came to the door, the man at the door shot him several times.

The shooting victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was in serious condition.

Several police officers were in the area, responding to the apartment shooting, when one of them saw a man matching the shooter’s description at the park, said Seattle Police spokesman Mark Jamieson.

“The suspect was armed, and our officer was forced to fire his weapon,” Jamieson said. “We believe this is the same individual who was involved in the earlier shooting.”

The suspect was alone in the park on Lake Washington the time of the shooting, Jamieson said. Detectives are investigating both incidents.
